SK Design Group served as the Civil Engineer on this
$80 million expansion and renovation, which is largely
submerged and features seven glass extrusions scattered
in the grassy turf of a 17-acre sculpture park. This
project enlarges the museum by 55 percent, to 374,000
square feet.
The Nelson-Atkins Museum is one of the most distinguished
general art museums in the United States, with an
especially strong Chinese art collection of landscape
paintings from the Sung Dynasty. Its holdings include
13 monumental bronzes by Henry Moore and a series
of Olympian-sized shuttlecocks commissioned from Claes
Oldenberg and Coosje van Bruggen.
